Departure from the United States.

Day 2. Saturday  May 14................................................................... Somerset

Arrival in London and transfer to hotel in Bristol.  Orientation briefing and Welcome Dinner. (D)

Day 3. Sunday  May 15...................................................................... Somerset

Morning visit to Bristol Cathedral for Sung Eucharist, followed by lunch and free time. 

Travel to Wells Cathedral to attend Choral Evensong.  Visit holy well and enjoy

free time in cathedral precincts. Return via Glastonbury.  (B)

Day 4. Monday  May 16................................................. Somerset and Devon

View Clifton Bridge, Industrial Revolution icon, and SS Great Britain. 

Meditate in John Wesley’s “New Room” (c. 1739).  Spend quiet time in Exeter Cathedral

and explore Buckfast Abbey.  Free evening in historic Plymouth. (B)

Day 5. Tuesday  May 17................................................. Devon and Cornwall

Begin with visit to Elizabethan House, the Hoe of Francis Drake, and the Pilgrim Steps

in Plymouth.  Lunch and free time in Plymouth followed by afternoon drive to Falmouth. 

Free evening. (B)

Day 6. Wednesday  May 18................................................................ Cornwall

Explore ruins of Tintagel Castle on the Cornish coast and reflect on King Arthur and the

Quest for the Holy Grail.  Visit ancient Bodmin Church.  Attend Choral Evensong at

Truro Cathedral.  Free evening in seaside Falmouth.  (B)

Day 7. Thursday  May 19.................................................................... Cornwall

Visit Penzance (in search of pirates!) and ascend St Michael’s Mount.  Visit Land’s End

for panoramic views.  Amble through St Ives (watching for the man with seven wives)

and visit the Church of St Ia of Cornwall.  (B)

Day 8. Friday  May 20..................................................... Cornwall and Dorset

Depart from Falmouth and travel eastward, viewing along the way Cerne Abbas

(the “rude giant”) carved on a chalky hillside.  Afternoon visit to the cottage and garden

of novelist Thomas Hardy of Dorchester.  Free evening in Dorset.  (B)

Day 9. Saturday May 21............ Dorset, Wiltshire, and Buckinghamshire

Morning visit to Neolithic stone circle at Avebury, grander than nearby Stonehenge, and

West Kennet Long Barrow.  Afternoon drive to Thames-side village of Marlow. 

Free time to experience English village life. (B)

Day 10. Sunday May 22...................... Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire

Attend Sung Eucharist at venerable St Mary the Virgin Church in Henely-on Thames. 

Boat ride and lunch on the river through “monastery row” of unparalleled monastic ruins. 

Evening recap and reflection with fellow pilgrims, followed by gala Farewell Dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 11. Monday May 23.................................................................... Departure

Transfer to airport for return flight to the United States. (B)

The gentle countryside of Somerset, Devon, and Dorset has been celebrated in English verse and song for generations. 
Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire boast not only seats of learning but also the most charming of country villages.
